ISI aims to set up scientific centre in Arunachal- 13-Aug-2010
Itanagar : The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) is eyeing to set up a scientific centre in Arunachal Pradesh to cater to the needs of N-E Regional Developmental Programmes.
This was conveyed by Institute Director Bimal K Roy, who along with his seven faculty and administrative officers, called on Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu here yesterday, official sources informed today.
The team, while seeking a suitable land for establishment of the institution, called for identifying any government or semi-government building to start up their academic session at the earliest possible.
With an objective to promote the study and dissemination of knowledge of statistics, planning for national development and social welfare, the ISI intends to set up various divisions pertaining to biological, mathematical, computer science, environmental sciences besides statistics division in the proposed institution.
The director further revealed that the institution would have scientists and administrative officers from the state besides representatives from the ISI for running the institution. In this way job opportunities for talented local youths would also be generated, he said.
The Chief Minister while welcoming the project assured all possible assistance from the government's end. He specifically directed Planning Secretary Ankur Garg, who was present in the meeting, to explore for the required land and building as sought for.
The visiting team, through an impressive power point presentation, briefed about activities and functions of the ISI.
The Institution would offer various technical courses besides helping the state government in formulating development plans and programmes. It would conduct periodical training programmes and substantially emphasise on research work, sources added.
