Maha introduces credit system for higher education courses- 18-Aug-2010
Mumbai: Maharashtra Government has decided to introduce "credit system" for higher education courses in the state from current academic session.
Accordingly, now the students' performance would be would be assessed continuously instead of just once a year.
"We are introducing the credit system as the students performance should be assessed continuously instead of just once through the old final exam system," Higher and Technical Education Minister, Rajesh Tope said.
Now, students would have to undertake projects, assignments throughout the year which would be assessed in grades. This would reflect in final mark sheets, Tope said adding this will help them to keep updated.
The minister has informed about the new system to all the vice-chancellors of the universities in the state and efforts are to implement the system from the current year.
"Some of the universities may have to amend rules and regulations for implementation of the credit system. We are trying to implement it in this academic year," Tope said.
In the current exam system, students appear for mid-term and final exams. Also, projects and practicals are not compulsory for all courses.
