Company Secretaryship-

CA, Company Secretaryship and ICWA are considered to be the professional courses for the Commerce students. Of  these, the Company Secretaryship furnishes good job opportunities.  The Company Secretary provides legal advice to organizations.  As per the Company Act or Statutory Rules, any company that has more than 50 lakhs share investments must appoint a secretary.  The Secretary apart from being an efficient administrator, must be a good coordinator to link the different departments of the organization and must be well-versed in company rules and regulations.

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India organizes this course. There are three levels of  Examinations for this course:

• Foundation course
• Intermediate course
• Final course

Those who have successfully completed these three courses can be appointed as company secretaries.   One must have passed plus 2 to join the Foundation Course.   Earlier the basic qualification for admission was a degree.   If a person completes the first level, he will be admitted into the Intermediate Course.  

The degree holders can directly join the Intermediate course without doing Foundation Course.  When they successfully complete it, they can do the final examinations of the  Final Course. After 18 months of rigorous training, this examination can be taken up either through correspondence or regular stream. Practical training is also mandatory. 

Those who have completed the Company Secretaryship Course are appointed not only in the corporate establishments but also in the Government departments and Legal institutions.

In India, this course is available in only one institution, ICSI, which has its head office at Delhi.  The Regional offices are at Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi. There are 36 main branches in different places and 6 sub-branches.
