Who would not like to go around the world, that too, in a ship?   Who would hesitate to roam about and enjoy the deep blue cool sea?  The Merchant Navy offers this to earn attractive salary and enjoy going around the world.

Merchant Navy denotes passenger ships, voluminous Tankers with million tons capacity and Cargo Vessels. Navy is associated with Defence Force.  But Merchant Navy is to use ships to transport trade material.  The institution that offers this course  appoints expert ship employees. Merchant Navy in India is operated by The Shipping Corporation of India, Great Eastern Shipping, Essar and Chowgule Shipping.   At the International Level Americas Chevron and Mobil, Wallen Ship Management of Hong Kong, Britains Denholme Shipping Corporation and a few Norway Companies do the operations. The Merchant Navy plays a vital role in the international trade.

Recruits are required for three principal works:  to work on the Deck, Engine and in the Service Sections.  There is a persistent requirement for these personnels to work in the ship. For the deck services a Captain, Chief officer, Second and Third Officers and other officers are required. They are responsible for the safe voyage, safety of the passengers and the cargo.  Chief Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Radio officers, Junior Engineers  work in the machine section. For Kitchen, Laundry, and Medical and for other services the Service Station people are essential.

Initially, it is possible to receive Rs. 20,000 p.m as salary. The Merchant Navy recruits are eligible for food, accommodation, leave with pay, travelling and family allowances, apart from the bonus and holiday allowances.  The additional information is that the income earned is not assessed for income tax. Those who have completed B.Sc. Nautical Science, B.E.Marine Engineering and Catering studies are eligible to apply.
