New Delhi: Delhi University's department of Germanic & Romance Studies today gave a green light to the semester mode in undergraduate courses, the DU administration said but the teachers opposing the semesterisation cried foul claiming it to be an act of "manipualtion".

Germanic and Romance Studies was one of the only two courses of 14 departments under the Faculty of Arts that were yet to approve new syllabi under the semester mode.

The University today said the Committee of Courses of GRS has resolved to introduce the semster mode at the undergraduate level from the upcoming academic session.

"This brings the University a step closer to completing the introduction of semester mode in all the undergraduate courses," a statement by the DU said.

However, the group of teachers opposing the move claimed the decision was taken without a meeting of the committee.

"We have spoken to the professors of the department and they have told us that no meeting was held," said Prof Nandita Narain of the Joint Action Body of teachers.

She said the information being circulated by the University administration was a "complete lie" and a "manipulation" of facts.

The issue of semesterisation of undergraduate courses has been a major issue of confrontation between the University and a large section of teachers who say that the system is being forced upon them in a hurry without any consultations and consensus.
