But, today it is possible to get the opportunity of being benefitted by listening to priceless lectures of prominent Professors from IIT.
NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) is a joint effort of ITTs and IISc that provides an opportunity to listening to lectures of professors from Indias premium institutions such as IIT, IMSc and Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI).
Through this programme, it is possible to listen to lectures at free of cost through YouTube on topics like Engineering, Management, Software Programming , Chemistry and many other science related topics.
These video lectures by infamous professors are based on the curriculum plan provided by AICTE. All the lectures found in this site cover nearly 800 topics. It doesnt pertain only to students of Engineering, Science; it also provides lectures to Language, Music, Economics and Humanities studies oriented students.
Broadly, studies encompasses segments such as Computer Science and Engineering; Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Mechanical, Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering; Management Studies; Civil & Aerospace Engineering; Mathematics and Basic Sciences; and Humanities and Social Sciences.
Some courses that are available from July onwards are Quantitative Finance, Managing Services, Introduction to Data Analytics, Practical English: Learning and Teaching, Appreciating Carnatic Music, Basic Electrical Circuits, Introduction to Programming in C, Fundamentals of database systems, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Computer Architecture, Introduction to Airplane performance, Networks and Systems, Functional Programming in Haskell, Model Checking, Artificial Intelligence: Search Methods for Problem Solving, Modern construction materials and Geosynthetics and Reinforced Soil Structures.
All the courses offered are short term courses that could be studied by listening to lectures from home itself. However, a computer is a must with the capacity to stream videos and with a headset.
Though, the studies offered are free, an examination with a certification is charged, but very nominal.
