FRI, a research institute in forest, is an exclusive organization run by the central government that carries out various research activities about forests.
This institution with a status equivalent to deemed university, is functional at Dehradun in the state of Uttarkkand.
This is an exclusive interview provided by Sujatha, Director and Vice chancellor of this institution to kalvimalar of Dinamalar.
Forest Research Instituted was established in the year 1906. This institute focuses on providing training to forest officers; involving in various research activities about forests; and devising new technologies to protect the forests.
Researches: Agriculture, Environment, Genetics, Chemistry and Climatic changes are some of 15 different branches of research activities this organization involves in. This institute also involves in research activities of forest fire and earlier means of identifying and controlling them. This is the biggest forest research organization in South East Asia
Trainings: This institution also provides 40 different training to forest villagers as livelihood measures like Aroma Therapy, without cutting down trees.
Programs: Here, this deemed university offers Post Graduation programs in Forestry, Environmental management, Aroma Technology and Food Technology. Apart from this, it also offers various research oriented studies here at the campus.
Admission: Students of all the state including that of SAARC countries can obtain admission here. Admissions are provided through a written examination.
Future plans: In the future, it plans to open up skill development centre to enhance job opportunities.
Environment Protection: These days, we have started to talk more about Forest and Environment as never before; started to worry. It is highly welcome. Having lessons about Environmental Protection in the school syllabus, is a great awakening towards the awareness about Environment.
