NCC to increase cadet strength after launch of new curriculum- 6-Jul-2012

New Delhi: The National Cadet Corps is all set to undergo a modernisation drive with its apex body discussing plans for an overhaul of the organisation by introducing a new curriculum and increasing its sanctioned strength from 13 lakh to 15 lakh cadets.
 
Introduction of a new training syllabus more contemporary in nature, increasing NCC's sanctioned strength of cadets to 15 lakh and other measures needed to meet the aspirations of the youth were among important issues that figured during discussions at the NCC's Central Advisory Committee meeting, a Defence Ministry official said.
    
Addressing the meeting, Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju who heads the CAC, complimented the NCC for its performance and the role of cadets in various activities pertaining to training, sports, adventure, social service and community development.
 
He also described the NCC cadets as the "Leaders of Tomorrow", and that they are the key instruments of social change, economic growth and technological innovations.
 
"There is an urgent need to channelize their energy in proper direction with care," he said.
 
"The important issues discussed during the CAC meeting included introduction of a new syllabus based on the refined training philosophy to make it contemporary and meet the aspirations of the youth of the country," a Defence Ministry official said.
 
In addition, an increase in authorized strength of cadets to be enrolled in NCC, raising of additional units and enhanced role of cadets in social and community development programme were also discussed during the meeting, they added.
    
The meeting was attended by senior NCC officials, three Services Chiefs General Bikram Singh, Admiral Nirmal Verma, Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne and Defence Secretary Shashikant Sharma.
