Malappuram (Ker): Kerala Governor Nikhil Kumar formally inaugurated classes of the newly formed Malayalam University at Tirur in Malappuram district.
Speaking on the occasion, he complimented the government for starting the university and noted that Malayalam is an important language among ancient languages.
Regular classes will being only by August 26.
Seventy six students have joined various courses, for which there are a total of 100 seats. About 70 per cent of those admitted are girls.
State education minister P K Abdurabb presided.
Renowned writers M T Vasudevan Nair and C Radhakrishnan were among those spoke.
K Jayakumar, Vice Chancellor, Malayalam University, welcomed those present.
The university was started last year.
