Most of students today are opting for modern technology courses like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning etc. Students need to understand that many opportunities are emerging today in the core engineering field as well.

No matter whatever the field is, deep learning and versatility are essential in today's era. Good job opportunities are available by developing all-round skills taking up courses like Biomedical, Biotechnology, Agricultural Engineering etc.

Self learning is essential

Today there are lot of opportunities if anyone chooses any modern technical subjects as an optional subject. So there is no need to choose any one technology as the main course. Deep learning is essential in any course taken. The need of the day is to develop a mindset of continuous learning throughout life.

Post-corona, the communication skills and writing skills of the students have decreased drastically. Self-learning has also decreased drastically today. Students should acquire interest in self-learning to develop a thorough knowledge of any subject. If students take-up a  'project' to find solutions to problems and challenges related to industry and society, their ability and innovative thinking expand to a great amount.

Choosing a College

While choosing a college, the majority of students and parents have a misconception that 'educational institutions that demand higher donations are the best. There are many educational institutes that provide excellent training without taking donations.

Institutions should first train professors properly before introducing any new course. Students can be properly trained only if the teachers are fully qualified in any subject.

Engineering education will be complete only if the 'Product Development Cell' is functioning effectively in the educational institutes. The curriculum and training system can be effectively implemented through agreements with more industrial companies. Opportunities can be made brighter for the students by tailoring the curriculum according to the needs of the industry.

-Indu Murugesan, Vice President, Kalayan Karunanidhi Institute of Technology, Coimbatore.
