The Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology CIPET, which concerns Plastics and Plastics related field has established itself as the premier educational institution of India. This is an autonomous institution functioning under the Central Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
The first site of CIPET was located at Chennai in 1968. Now, its locations are at Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Aurangabad, Bhopal, Bhuvaneswar, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Hajipur, Haldia, Jaipur, Imphal, Lucknow, Mysore and Panipet. CIPET remains as an exemplary educational institution for Plastics Technology not only in India but also in the Asia continent. Student admissions to the various courses here are done through the Joint Entrance Examination JEE.

To join in the Diploma or Post-Diploma courses, the students should have passed 10th Std. The duration of the Diploma courses is 3 years and the Post-Diploma courses, 4 years. Those who have done PG in Chemistry can opt for the Postgraduate Diploma Course in Plastics Processing and Testing. The duration of the course is 1 year and 6 months.
