Ho language classes for school dropout girls- 15-Oct-2016
Jamshedpur: In an attempt to generate interest among school dropout girls, private steel major Tata Steel today launched 'Ho' language classes in Camp School in tribal dominated Noamundi in West Singhbhum district.
'Ho' is a rich tribal language of Jharkhand and the objective behind the company's endeavour is to preserve and promote the language, a Tata Steel statement said.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Laxmi Soren, West Singbhum Zila Parishad Member, assured the company to provide full support to this initiative.
"Many girls in Camp School can speak 'Ho' but did not know how to write in the language. This is a good initiative by Tata Steel to promote the language," she said.
Lessons in Ho will be conducted for the Camp School girls during weekend by a teacher from Ho Sabha, Chaibasa.
The Camp School at Noamundi has been set-up to enhance educational interest in school drop-out girls residing in core tribal villages of Noamundi. Currently, 100 girls are studying in the Camp School at Noamundi.
After completion of the ten-month bridge course, almost 100% girls are inducted into formal schools – Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya or other government schools – in respective villages.
In Jharkhand, Ho tribe accounts for a sizable tribal population and their script is 'Warang Kshiti'.
As part of its effort to promote tribal languages, especially among the new generation, the company has been running Ho language learning centres since 2011 in three districts of Kolhan region — East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan, the statement said.
