Kochi: The Kerala government informed the high court it has no intention of arresting Lekshmi Nair, former principal of Kerala Law Academy Law College, on a complaint that she insulted a Dalit student in public view.

The court directed the police to file a report on the progress of the probe into the case.

Earlier, on the basis of a complaint by the student, Nair was booked under the Scheduled Castes and The Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act), 1989.

Nair approached the high court seeking to quash the case registered against her, arguing that no offence is made out against her.

Meanwhile, in another case, chairman of Nehru Group of Institutions, P Krishnadas, today approached the high court with an anticipatory bail application.

While adjourning the application for hearing views of police, the court directed that he should not be arrested till the next date of consideration of the application.

Krishnadas moved anticipatory bail application after the Special Investigation Team, which is probing the death of an engineering student at his institution named him as the first accused in the investigation report submitted to the Vadakkachery chief judicial magistrate's court early this week.
