Ayurveda is a traditional treatment method for various ailments and diseases. 

Its origin is considered to be roughly around 600BC. The term Ayurveda seems to come from Sanskrit Language with Ayur meaning life and Veda meaning knowledge. Those qualified professionals in this medical field are known as Vidias and are dedicated to provide sound health, natural beauty and long life.

Specialty of Ayurveda: 

According to Ayurveda, life is the co-existence of mind, senses, body and soul.

Medical body considers that there seems to be strong relationship between human race and nature. Diseases invade the human system when there is a distortion between these two elements, nature and human body. As for as the field of medicine is concerned curing is a basic action. But, the primary objective of Ayurveda is natural curing with natural resources.
 
Further, the indispensable principle of Ayurvedic treatment is prevention rather than curing.  At the moment Ayurveda has attained a substantial growth in the global medical scenario. Treating diseases properly through modern scientific medical methodology (Allopathy) is a bit intricate. But, Ayurveda provides good safe treatment without any side effects.

Origination of Ayurveda:

In the year 1969, the Indian Government established Central Council for Research in Indian Medicine and Homeopathy  (CCRIMH) towards carrying out research activities in Ayurveda. This individual body is further divided into four separate councils.

1. Ayurveda and Siddha
2. Yunani
3. Yoga and Naturopathy.
3. Homeopathy

Initiated by the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, the Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha is an organization with autonomous authority with the main objective of the council to carry out several research activities and apply the same research activities in Ayurveda treatment processes. 

Under Graduate Ayurvedic studies:

B.A.M..S., (UG Ayurveda and Surgical). The duration of this UG course is of 51/2 years, out which 41/2 years are allotted for studies and one year of internship.

Eligibility: Applicant should be between the age of 17 to 25 and should have studied the subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Plus two. Students would be selected either based on plus two marks or entrance exams.

PG in Ayurvedic Medicine: M.D., in Ayurveda is a 3-year Post Graduate course

Eligibility:   Applicant should have completed B.A.M.S.L or MBBS from a recognized institution.

At present, Ayurveda studies in India functions under the aegis of Indian Medical Council. It is a central government scheme, with nearly 154 colleges for UG Ayurveda education and 33 colleges PG studies.  

Ayurveda colleges functioning in Tamil Nadu are given below. All these colleges come under the Dr. MGR Medical University.

R.V.S., Ayurveda College, Kovai

Darma Ayurveda College, Sri Prembadur.

Sri Sankara Ayurveda College, Trichi.

Sri Sairam Ayurveda Medical and Research Centre, Kanchipuram.

Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Ayurveda College, Tiruvallur.

Job Opportunities:

Numerous job opportunities are available for those having complete Ayurvedic Medicine. Ayurveda doctors are offered between Rs8 to Rs14 thousand as a monthly salary in Ayurveda and Government hospitals. Ayurveda medicine is slowly getting popular due to the attraction of foreign tourists.  Several people across the globe come to India to obtain Ayurvedic treatment.

In the coming days certainly the demand for Ayurvedic hospitals would grow enormously.
