Parents play a very important role in the development of a child, especially during examination seasons. Most parents reveal their anxiousness to their students by getting behind them and pushing them frequently with words that makes them irritant. Several parents are unaware about some of basic requirements of the child during this stressful time. Here we provide some tips for the parents.

  • Stop nagging your child. A Child psychologist says that nagging doesn’t help. She advises parents to stay calm because kids themselves have their own fear and expectations.
  • Set reasonable goals and limitations. Consent a revision schedule and oblige to record their favourite TV shows for later viewing.
  • Provide tea and be compassionate. They are your finest contribution. Make sure that they take regular breaks and give drinks. Offer them and find out their need. If they look too tired ask them to work after a break or the next day.
  •  Provide food for their minds. Sugar can provide good energy, but it increases the stress. Provide them a bowl of seeds, nuts and dried fruit to eat while studying. Instead of coffee give them milk it's very calming. Serve small, regular meals including things like potatoes, pasta, rice, fish and chicken. Drinking plenty of water is good for the brain.
  • Boost their confidence level. A child psychologist says, 'Few kids don’t revise because of fear. So that they can blame the fact that they haven’t revised. Build their confidence by reminding them of the past things they had done and excelled. Some find revision as a difficult concept to understand itself. Encourage them to meet their teacher to develop revision skills.'
  • Identify signs of stress. Stressed youngsters do not show interest on their food or even at times overeating. They become irritable, withdrawn, silent, have difficulty sleeping or be waking early. It’s very crucial to be in good relationship so that they can talk to you about their worries. Seek professional help if required. Many schools have a counselor.
  • Teach them to relax. leading psychologist says that relaxation techniques are highly effective. Listening to good music, resting awhile, closing the eyes and taking deep breath helps to ease away tensions. Visualization helps to build self-confidence for some students.
  • Right perspective. Console yourself by talking to parents who have been through exam hell, if you too are also stressed. Frequently remind yourself and your child that exams aren’t everything life. Keep assuring them always that you love them in spite of their performance.
