Visakha Government Degree College for Women was established in 1975 as a private college by a group of philanthropic persons. The college was admitted into UGC grant-in-aid in 1978. In 1983, the composite college was bifurcated into Degree and Junior colleges. The college located earlier in Hawa Mahal on the Beach Road was shifted to Borstal School premises belonging to central prison in Jail Road in the year 1992. It was also taken over by the government of A.P. in 1992, vide G.O. Rt. No. 2136 Eclu. Dated 22-11-1992.
