The Mohammadan Anglo-Oriental College established on May 24, 1875 matured to the status of the Aligarh Muslim University in 1920. With twelve faculties, 91 Departments of Studies, 2,530 faculty members and twenty eight thousand students, this university is ever expanding, diversifying and relentlessly working in disseminating knowledge and keeping its promise to the commitment of its founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. The Centre for Distance Education is an integral part of the University and an expression of the University's concern and commitment for spread of education in all strata of society and all parts of the country.
