Hindi is the official language of India. Most predominant language in India30% of India's people speaking Hindi. The "Hindi languages" in the widest sense of all dialects native to the "Hindi belt" accounts for 337 million native speakers (1991 Indian census). In this course, students will be taught to read, write and speak. It is very closely related to Urdu, and somewhat less closely to neighbouring languages such as Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali and Nepali with which it shares the inheritance of Sanskrit. Hindi is the first language of several hundred million speakers, and the second language of many more.
